Development authority reviews online feature

POSTED: August 18, 2012 9:30 a.m.

During a meeting Thursday morning, the Forsyth County Development Authority learned about a new Web page that offers local information for prospective businesses.

Randall Toussaint, vice president of economic development for the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, gave an overview of the feature, which is accessible to anyone.

He said “fast facts” can be found on the chamber’s Web site, www.cummingforsythchamber.org, under the heading “economic development.”

The page contains information about “some of the most commonly asked questions” prospective businesses ask about the community.

That information includes items such as tax rates, population patterns, real estate and housing data, business incentives and work force statistics.

Toussaint also updated members on mid-year economic development numbers.

He said four companies have committed this year to expansion projects anticipated to generate about 150 new jobs. In addition, five new firms have located to Forsyth this year, bringing about 170 jobs.

“So collectively that’s nine projects that will bring about 320 new jobs and about $16.5 million in capital investments this year,” Toussaint said. “For mid-year, that’s very significant.”

In other business Thursday, the development authority voted to postpone considering a resolution that would involve issuing $45 million in bonds for the benefit of Living-Towne Club Windermere Assisted Living LLC.

The bonds, if ultimately approved by the Forsyth County commission, would be used to pay for construction of a 178-unit senior housing community on Trammel Road in south Forsyth.

Chairman Bobby Thomas said representatives of the group were not prepared to make a presentation Thursday as they are still working to buy the site for the project.
