A teenager was flown to an Atlanta hospital Tuesday morning after her vehicle collided head on with a tractor trailer on Hwy. 369 in north Forsyth.

Forsyth County firefighters spent nearly an hour working to free the 18-year-old from a Nissan Altima, which overturned after the collision.

The wreck, which occurred about 11 a.m. at Gravitt Road and just west of North Forsyth High, shut down traffic for hours in both directions along the well-traveled corridor.

Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers said the effort required extra caution as one of the teen’s legs was pinned between two of the roof pillars of the Nissan.

The teen, whose name has not been released, was then flown to Grady Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth with what appeared to be minor injuries, said Fire Division Chief Kevin Wallace.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is handling the wreck investigation.

In addition to North High, the crash site is also near North Middle and Coal Mountain Elementary schools.

As of midafternoon, Forsyth County School spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo said law enforcement had “cleared one lane so we’ll be able to give access to parents and buses.”

“There will be no disruption to our [bus] routes,” she said.
