A possible Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office headquarters building is no longer under contract.

Commissioners voted 5-0 on Thursday not to buy the office building on 1230 Bald Ridge Marina Road, which had been proposed for the agency’s new headquarters.

According to County Attorney Ken Jarrard, the county discovered issues with the property during the 60-day due diligence period.

“We found some issues with the structure that really necessitated a reduction in the price of the facility,” Jarrard said. “The seller has not been willing to reduce the price by an amount the board feels comfortable with.”

Once home to a medical center, the 10-acre site sits on the west corner where the road meets Market Place Boulevard, not far from Ga. 400.

It is owned by GE Commercial Finance Business Property Corporation.

Based on the July 5 agreement, the county has the ability to get out of the contract during the due diligence period for any reason, he said. The county’s $20,000 that was placed in escrow will be returned.

Commissioner Brian Tam motioned to terminate the agreement because “the property is not suitable for county purposes.”

The existing office building had been considered as a solution to get the agency’s administration under one roof.

The sheriff’s office operates from several locations currently, and some of those are slated to be knocked down in construction of the new courthouse.
