Chamber golf tourney nears

Deadline to register is Monday

POSTED: September 16, 2012 12:31 a.m.

There’s still time to sign up for the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce’s annual golf tournament Sept. 24 at Polo Golf and Country Club.

Laura Stewart, the chamber’s director of communications and events, said the 2012 tournament should be especially memorable as the event is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

“The format is going to be what people have loved and done for 25 years,” she said. “But we have been trying to highlight some of the historical relevance of the tournament, just how long it’s been in the community and some of the previous winners and fun stories from past years.”

She added that the venue is a good fit for the tournament, which will begin with registration at 9 a.m. and play at 10 a.m.

“I think it’s exciting that we’re back at Polo this year because [the tournament] has been hosted at Polo so many times over the past 25 years,” Stewart said. “It seemed really fitting for us to be back there for this one.”

Anyone interested in participating should contact the chamber office by 5 p.m. Monday.

“We still have some limited availability,” Stewart said, noting the event likely will draw about 100 players.

Teams of four or individuals can register to play.

“What we will do is if individuals register, we pair them to make foursomes,” Stewart said. “So that’s why it’s really a great networking opportunity and something the chamber likes to do because there is that element of getting to know people that you may never otherwise encounter because they may be playing on your team.”

While the proceeds from the event the chamber and its programming, Stewart said the day is really more about fun than fundraising.

“The main purpose is really to just promote a kind of casual, fun-filled networking opportunity for our members and executives,” she said.

Prizes will be awarded for first and second lowest net scores, as well as first lowest gross score.

There will also be recognition for longest drive, closest to pin and a putting contest.

“We have some really kind of different giveaway items for our contests this year,” Stewart said. “Some people have given some different stuff in honor of the 25th [anniversary].”
