A longtime Forsyth County carpet business recently moved into a much larger facility.

Flack’s Flooring Company held a grand reopening event Tuesday for its new location off Ga. 400 north.

Owner Brad Flack said the company has been in Forsyth for about 20 years, first at the old Matt community schoolhouse off Hwy. 369 and for the past 11 years at a location a little farther north on Ga. 400, near the Dawson County line.

Flack said about a month ago the company, which had been called Carpet Depot, moved into a building previously known as Cherokee Music.

“This is a better location,” Flack said. “It’s much bigger with better road presence. For us, it doesn’t really get much better than this location.”

The new site is more than twice the size of the previous building.

“This is 22,000 square feet and the other was about 9,500,” said Flack, noting that he and his staff of four consider it a “landmark type of location.”

The building’s previous owners had several giant animal statues out front. Flack said he decided to keep two of them: a male and female Pink Panther.

“The previous owners had them out there a long time and we thought that out of everything that was out there, [the panthers] really were the landmark of the building,” Flack said.

“We’ve been north of here for more than 10 years and this building was always described to us as the building with the Pink Panthers out front, so we kept them.”

Flack compared the panthers to another animal landmark in Marietta.

“I think it’s the Big Chicken of the northern part of this county,” he said. “We’re going to restore them. We’ve planted flowers around them and we’re embracing them.”

Flack said he hopes to also embrace new customers at the larger site, which boosts a 7,000-square-foot showroom and 14,000-square-foot warehouse.

He said he believes the company has become known for providing low prices and “exceptional service.”

“I think people these days, we’ve sort of lost grasp of what it is to receive good service,” he said. “We’re used to 1-800 numbers and ‘get in line’ kind of service as opposed to dealing with a person who is knowledgeable and is invested and really cares about your business and about you as a person.

“Our prices are very good on everything we sell — that goes without saying, we’ve been known for that for a long time — but I think how we serve people and how we interact with people is what differentiates us.”

Flack said the store provides a wide range of floor coverings from companies such as Shaw, Mohawk, Color Tile and Carpets Plus.

He said one product in particular has gained popularity in recent years thanks to TV home improvement programs.

“We are the only dealer anywhere in this area that you’re going to find an inventory of modular carpet squares,” Flack said. “That’s one of the reasons we moved into this building was to warehouse them.”

The warehouse also sells other standard rolled carpets at lower than average prices.

“I think we’re more of a destination store,” Flack said. “We stock a lot of product and it’s all stuff we buy at a discount and we sell it that way.

“Before we weren’t able to put all of our business under one roof and that’s pretty much what this building enabled us to do.”
