Weather can’t dampen sheriff’s tournament

Fundraiser aids youth homes

POSTED: October 3, 2012 12:32 a.m.

As promised, the 10thannual Sheriff Ted Paxton Golf Tournament was held rain or shine on Monday.

And despite a steady rain, about 60 people took part in the event at Windermere Golf Club.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Capt. Tim House said the conditions “dampened the play quite a bit.”

“But spirits seemed to be somewhat high,” he said. “People were there for charity and for the love of the game.”

Just one team managed to play all 18 holes, according to House, but most still managed to get in about a dozen before coming in for some food.

While the weather was less than ideal, the event ultimately proved to be a successful fundraiser.

With entry fees alone, House said at least $7,500 was raised toward the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, which provides assistance to underprivileged and abused children.

In addition to golf, breakfast, lunch and dinner were served during the tournament.
