Teen charged after collision

Authorities: New driver at fault

POSTED: October 10, 2012 12:34 a.m.

Authorities say two people suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle wreck Sunday morning in north Forsyth.

Karleen Chalker, spokeswoman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, said a newly licensed driver appeared to have caused the collision, which occurred about 8 a.m. on Keith Bridge Road near Freedom Parkway.

According to Chalker, the 16-year-old male driver from Gainesville was traveling south on Keith Bridge toward the parkway in a 1994 Honda Accord and “was planning to make a left hand turn into the parking lot at Quick Trip.”

Instead, however, the Honda turned into the path of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by a 46-year-old Cumming woman.

“[He] failed to yield and turned in front of her, causing the collision,” Chalker said.

She said the woman was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth with what were described as minor injuries, as was one of three passengers in the Honda.

The teen driver was charged with failure to yield and driving in violation of a license restriction, according to Chalker.

Keith Bridge Road was closed for about 20 minutes.
