Bark & Boogie Ball on Saturday

Fundraiser residents 'won't want to miss'

POSTED: October 16, 2012 12:33 a.m.

The Humane Society of Forsyth County will hold its biggest fundraiser of the year Saturday.

The eighth annual Bark & Boogie Ball returns to the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center for another night of dancing, dining and auctions.

Event Chairwoman Debbie Booth said the evening, a “black tie invited” gala, is something people look forward to attending each year.

“They will be entertained no matter where they go,” she said. “We’ll have a lot of things going on.”

This year’s event features live music from Band X and the 17-piece Big Band Atlanta.

Chef Kern’s will once again cook a gourmet meal, and new this year is surprise entertainment during dessert that guests “won’t want
to miss,” Booth said.

The formal gala will also include a professional photographer for guests to get a posed portrait, she said. As in the past, attendees can also participate in the silent and live auctions.

“We’ve actually become kind of known for having an awesome auction,” Booth said. “We just have a lot of really nice things.”

Up for bid are several destination packages, including Costa Rica and Italy, “unique” finds like an antique Chinese urn and sports tickets and memorabilia.

Prior to the event and at the gala, the humane society is selling raffle tickets for a custom Bark & Boogie Ball golf cart in advance at Lance’s Jewelry and the Humane Society Thrift Store.

The event will also include a new “Bark & Boogie Boutique” with pet-related items for sale.

Proceeds from the event will support the nonprofit animal shelter, which operates from donations.

Booth said the organization hopes to put the money raised toward its spay and neuter and medical funds, as well as renovating the dog areas at the no-kill shelter on Keith Bridge Road.

“We depend on this event to support the rescue of animals,” she said, adding that those who can’t attend but still want to help can make donations at the society’s Web site, www.forsythpets.org.

For the ball, online registration has closed, but tickets and tables are still available by contacting Booth or visiting Lance’s Jewelry.
