Tea party encouraging folks to vote

Nonpartisan rally is Saturday

POSTED: November 1, 2012 12:03 a.m.

It doesn’t matter which candidate comes out ahead, all the Forsyth County Tea Party Patriot Alliance is working toward is encouraging voters to participate in the upcoming election.

“Some people, I don’t know how important voting is to them, and I just hope they know that every vote counts,” said Ernie Housner, alliance vice president.

To help bolster turnout, the alliance is hosting a Get Out the Vote Rally on Saturday. The event will take place at several locations in Cumming to maximize the group’s reach.

People from the alliance will be canvassing the downtown square at the Forsyth County Courthouse, at Market Place and Ronald Reagan boulevards and at Hwy. 9 and Veterans Memorial Boulevard.

A handful of people at each location have already volunteered to hold up signs during the rally, which runs from 9-11 a.m. Saturday. But Housner said the group is welcoming others to join. Signs will be provided to volunteers, he said.

“The signs we’re going to have, they’re totally bipartisan. They’re just saying ‘Go vote,’” Housner said. “We’re totally bipartisan. We don’t endorse and we will never endorse.”

The rally will be too late for all early and advance voting, but Housner said it will be right on time for election day on Tuesday.

“I hope that this might push a couple of [people] to say, ‘You know what, I will go out and vote,’” He said. “All we can do is ask people to go out and vote … and I think it will make a difference.”
