No. 2-ranked Prince Avenue Christian jumped out to a 29-0 lead against Pinecrest Academy on Friday at the Paladins’ field and held on for a 50-35 victory.

The loss leaves the Paladins (4-4, 2-3 Region 8-A) a game behind George Walton and Athens Christian for one of the final two playoff spots in Region 8-A with one game left to play.

Pinecrest turnovers gave Prince Avenue (8-1, 4-1) a short field to work with on its first two drives.

The Paladins lost a fumble at their own 11 on their first drive of the night, then turned the ball over on downs at their own 22 on a fake punt attempt on the second series.

Prince Avenue turned both possessions into touchdowns and a 14-0 lead.

The Wolverines scored two more touchdowns before Pinecrest quarterback Jimmy Strom got the Paladins on the scoreboard with 7.8 seconds left in the first half.

Pinecrest closes the regular season at Commerce on Friday.
