Church's fall bazaar Saturday

Offers a start to holiday shopping

POSTED: November 9, 2012 12:30 a.m.

The public is invited to get a jump on holiday shopping this weekend as First Baptist Cumming holds its annual fall bazaar.

The event is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the church’s atrium. Sandi Abbott, one of the organizers, said it will feature some 50 vendors with a range of items.

“We have jewelry, Christmas decorations, stained glass, soap, art, pottery, knitted scarves and antiques, just to name a few,” she said. “People should come with their Christmas lists ready.”

The event is put on by the church’s Ruth Reed Mission and the Kathy Jolly Mission action groups, which support a range of mission activities throughout the community and country.

Cost to enter the event is $1, which is donated to the church’s quilting ministry. The members of that group craft quilts for families of fallen Georgia soldiers.

Vendors charge various prices for their wares, and breakfast and lunch foods will be sold.

There will also be a silent auction to support Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief, which provides assistance to victims of natural disasters such as super storm Sandy.

Abbott said last year’s event drew about 1,000 people and took in more than $5,000 for ministries.

“We hope to raise even more this year,” she said. “A part of each dollar spent will go to various outreach ministries in our community and beyond.”
