Forsyth County teen aces ACT

POSTED: November 13, 2012 12:31 a.m.

Forsyth County resident Sathvik Namburar knew he would do well on the ACT, but he wasn’t expecting to be perfect.

However, the junior at Woodward Academy in College Park did just that, earning a perfect 36 on the test. Less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students nationwide who take the ACT accomplish the feat.

“I was at a tutor for about a month or so and that was all the preparing I did,” he said. “I got a 34 on the practice test … so it was a little bit surprising.”

Namburar said the secret to his success is that “on test day, I really locked in and gave it my all.”

In recognition of his perfect score, Namburar received a letter from ACT CEO Jon Whitmore, highlighting his achievement.

“While test scores are just one of the many criteria that most colleges consider when making admission decisions, your exceptional ACT composite score should prove helpful as you pursue your education and career goals,” Whitmore wrote in the letter.

Of those who graduated high school in 2012, just 781 of 1.66 million students earned a perfect composite score on the test, which consists of English, math, reading and science questions.

Each test is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, and a student’s composite score is the average of the four test scores.

Namburer said he hopes to someday enter the field of medicine, but still has the rest of this year and his senior year ahead. His plans include taking the SAT to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship.

He got a 2250 on a mock SAT, and is hoping to top that when he takes the real test in January.

As for another perfect score, Namburer wouldn’t rule it out.

“But I don’t know,” he said “I’ll prepare for it and just give it my all and see what happens.”
