Reminder: No school all week

Students, traffic to return Nov. 26

POSTED: November 18, 2012 12:32 a.m.

Thanksgiving traffic usually is strongest on the Wednesday before the holiday, but Forsyth County parents have a head start to beat the rush.

Students are out of school the entire week and will return Nov. 26.

Associate Superintendent Joey Pirkle said the extended break applies only to students and staff. The district office will be open Monday through Wednesday.

“This five-day break has been popular in both parents and staff and is favored again in the 2013-14 school calendar,” Pirkle said. “We wish our students and staff a happy and safe Thanksgiving.”

Cindy Salloum, the system’s chief accountability officer, said the Thanksgiving break is just that, a break. Plenty of work will await students after the break and before the end of the first semester Dec. 20.

“They will have three-and-a-half weeks before the end of the first semester,” Salloum said. “Between Thanksgiving and the winter holiday break is a very busy time of year for our teachers and students, especially at the high school level for End of Course Test assessments that will be given the first week of December and the release of the 2013-14 High School Course Digest.”

Pirkle said students and staff aren’t the only Forsyth residents on break this week — motorists will also get a reprieve.

“Many that travel around our school campuses will enjoy less traffic during this week, but we caution drivers to plan ahead for our return,” Pirkle said.
