Hearing scheduled on city budget

POSTED: November 22, 2012 12:34 a.m.

Cumming officials have scheduled a public hearing on the proposed 2013 budget for 3 p.m. Dec. 4 at city hall.

“We’ll be discussing the budget and if anybody has any questions, they’re welcome to pick up a copy,” said Mayor H. Ford Gravitt.

The decision came Tuesday night during the regular monthly meeting of mayor and council.

The proposed 2013 budget includes general fund revenues and expenditures of about $11.2 million, as well as sewer and water revenues and expenditures of about $12.5 million, and 1-cent sales tax revenues and expenditures of $1 million.

Also during its meeting Tuesday night, council approved:

• A height variance request from 30 feet to 42 feet for a sign on Hwy. 20 near Sanders Road.

A public hearing was held on the matter with no one speaking for or against the measure.

• The purchase of a John Deere Gator utility vehicle for $5,550 and new restroom tile for the Dobbs Creek Gym for about $8,000 for the Recreation and Parks Department.

• The creation of a database of the city’s roads and streets by Moreland-Altobelli for $30,000, which would be divided into several payments throughout 2013.

• Forty-two alcohol license renewals for various city eateries and retail establishments.

• Advertising bids for the following items for the city’s utilities department: a dump truck; mini-excavator with trailer; replacement trailer; and phosphorus monitor for wastewater.

All the items are included in the 2012 budget.
