Apparent murder-suicide investigated

Older couple found dead on their couch

POSTED: December 11, 2012 2:22 p.m.

The names of a couple found dead Monday night in what is being described as an apparent murder-suicide in a south Forsyth subdivision have not been released as authorities are still working to notify family members.

“We want to put some closure on this, but we haven’t been able to find anybody yet,” said Forsyth County Sheriff’s Capt. Tim House on Tuesday.

According to House, a man and woman were found sitting next to each other on a living room couch, both with gunshot wounds to the head, at the house on Bagley Road. He was 65 and she was 66.

“The husband called authorities shortly before 10 p.m. saying he had just shot his wife,” House said.

“The deputies were familiar with these folks and the gentleman had indicated on his phone call to 911 that he and his wife were having some marital problems.”

According to House, no other people, including children, were present.

When the husband called, House said, he told authorities he had shot his wife and “that he planned on killing himself and that he was going to leave the front door unlocked.”

Autopsies are being conducted at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office, said GBI spokesman John Bankhead.

Forsyth County Coroner Lauren McDonald said there were no signs of a struggle at the home.

According to McDonald, there are “a lot of suicides and suicide attempts in the county,” but murder-suicides are rare.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had a situation like this, probably four or five years, maybe longer,” McDonald said.
