Before the War Eagles knew what hit them, the game was already out of reach.

Grayson led 33-8 at halftime before holding South Forsyth to its fewest points in program history with a 51-20 non-region win on Saturday at the Eagles’ Nest.

“At some point we have to knock down some shots,” South head coach Manson Hill said. “They really hurt us on the boards; we’re battling, but we have to get better [rebounding] positions.”

The Rams (4-3) jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the first quarter, forcing Hill to use a timeout. It didn’t help as Grayson finished the period ahead 17-4.

Grayson kept attacking in the second quarter, using an 11-2 run with five minutes left to bring the score to 33-8 at the half.

Grayson’s Damion Young scored 11 of his game-high 13 points in the first half, while teammate Joe Howard added nine. The Rams finished the game shooting 48 percent from the field, while South managed only 21 percent and shot 17 percent from 3-point range.

Douglas Cotter led the War Eagles (2-3) with 12 points, but it wasn’t enough as Grayson cruised to a 51-20 win.

Although South lost to Lambert 73-46 on Friday, Hill believes the stiff competition will help prepare his team.

“To me, it was an improved effort [from Friday] against a more superior athletic team,” Hill said. “It was a good weekend because we got to play two good teams.”

South was scheduled to play North Forsyth on Tuesday before traveling to West Forsyth on Friday.
