Woman injured as car rolls into creek

POSTED: December 19, 2012 4:50 p.m.

Authorities say a 20-year-old Alpharetta woman remains in critical condition after her vehicle rolled into a creek Tuesday afternoon in south Forsyth.

Jasmine Khanna, 20, was taken to North Fulton Hospital following a single-vehicle wreck, which occurred about 1:44 p.m. off of Mullinax Road.

Khanna was traveling east on Mullinax in a 2000 Toyota Camry when she drove off the side of a curve just west of Windy Hill Drive, said Karleen Chalker, spokeswoman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

As she attempted to return to the road, Khanna reportedly lost control of the Camry, which hit an embankment and then a tree on its passenger side.

“After she hit the tree, the vehicle rotated off the tree and came to rest in a creek,” Chalker said. “She was entrapped in the vehicle and found unconscious on the scene.”

According to Chalker, Khanna was wearing a seatbelt and the initial investigation has shown speed, alcohol and drugs were not factors.

The investigation is ongoing.

In a separate unrelated incident, a single-vehicle wreck Tuesday night shut down a west Forsyth road for several hours.

Drew Road reopened just before midnight, Chalker said. It closed after a GMC Yukon struck a power pole and toppled the lines.

One adult and one child in the sport utility vehicle were taken to North Fulton Hospital with what authorities described as non-life threatening injuries.
