A country music and comedy extravaganza will return to the Cumming Playhouse this week.

“Branson on the Road,” which features talent from the famous Missouri city, will begin a five-performance run Friday.

The show also made a stop at the playhouse last December.

Debbie Horton, an organizer and performer, said the traveling production “delivers the Branson traditions of good, clean family fun.”

“’Branson on the Road’ is the kind of show most people thought was long gone in this day of overproduced music, overused special effects and performers singing to tracks,” she said in a statement.

“In the same tradition as the traveling road shows during the glory days of the Grand Ole Opry … ‘Branson on the Road’ keeps you tapping, laughing and smiling.”

The show combines a range of old-time country instruments like the fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar and upright slap bass.

Musical genres include classic country, rockabilly and gospel, along with down-home comedy and colorful costumes.

“Branson on the Road,” the first national touring show named for the city, has more than 20 years of experience performing in top venues on Branson’s famous 76 Country Music Blvd.

Horton said if audiences can’t make it to Missouri, the show is the best way for them to experience a Branson show.

“For a couple of hours, you can forget all about your troubles and have a good time,” she said.
