Traffic advisory: Work this week on Hwy. 20

POSTED: February 4, 2013 12:30 a.m.

Motorists likely will encounter delays this week along a well-traveled corridor northwest of Cumming.

Crews with the state Department of Transportation will be patching damaged asphalt along a 2.5-mile stretch of Hwy. 20, between Tower Road and Pine Lake Drive.

DOT spokeswoman Teri Pope said one lane will be closed while crews work and vehicles will be led through the zone one direction at a time by a pilot vehicle or flagman.

Work on Hwy. 20 is slated to begin Monday at Tower, gradually extending along the outside lane of the highway toward Pine Lake Drive.

Crews will then head in the other direction, working on the outside lane before starting again on the inside lanes.

The patching is scheduled for 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and should take about two weeks.

“The road won’t be perfect,” Pope said. “This is not a full resurfacing project, it’s just a Band-Aid. [But] once the work is finished, you will have a much smoother driving surface.”
