POSTED: February 6, 2013 12:28 a.m.

Forsyth County has been recognized for its comprehensive annual financial report.

For the 12th consecutive year, the county received the certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

The association is a nonprofit professional organization serving more than 17,000 government finance professionals.

The certificate was awarded for the Forsyth County’s financial report for fiscal year 2011.

According to a news release from the county, the certificate of achievement is the “highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.”

In addition, County Finance Director David Gruen received an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement as the person primarily responsible for preparing the 2011 report.

The report was judged by an impartial panel. The requirements for the certificate included meeting “high standards of the program.”

Among the standards were “demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read [the report].”

In a statement, Gruen called the certificate “a testament to Forsyth County government’s commitment to transparency in our financial operations.”

He also praised the “professional work” of county staff. “The entire finance department is to be commended for this recognition,” he said.

The county’s 2011 financial report can be found on the finance department page of the county Web site, www.forsythco.com.
