Two Forsyth County-based businesses were recently recognized by the University of Georgia Alumni Association as among its 2013 Bulldog 100: Fastest Growing Bulldog Businesses.

Financial Benefit Group, led by 1989 UGA graduate Steve Voshall, ranked 76th on the list. The firm specializes in investment services, employee benefits, and life and health insurance.

Helmed by 2006 UGA graduate Julie Ramirez, Forsyth Exterminating placed 85th in the rankings. It specializes in pest, termite, wildlife and landscape services.

Since the rankings list program was begun four years ago, an Atlanta CPA firm has worked with the alumni association to verify information submitted by each nominated company. The companies are then ranked based on compounded annual growth rates.

To be considered for the program, an organization must have been in business for at least five years and had revenues of $100,000 or more for the calendar year 2009.

In addition, it must be owned or operated by a former UGA student who owns at least 50 percent of the company or is the CEO, president or managing partner.

The program recognizes the fastest-growing businesses regardless of size by focusing on a three-year growth rate average.

More than 700 nominations were submitted for the 2013 program. Those named to the top 100 list included companies in all sizes and services that included agriculture, aircraft parts manufacturing, insurance, robotics and health care, among others. They are located in states as far away as Utah and New Jersey.

The 2013 Bulldog 100 honorees were recognized at a banquet in Atlanta in late January. Deborah Dietzler, executive director of the alumni association, said the in a statement that the event celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit of UGA graduates.

“The annual celebration is our most well-attended event of the year as the unveiling of the rankings makes for an exciting evening,” she said.

Nominations for the 2014 Bulldog program will be accepted until May 31.
