Chamber preps for awards luncheon

Event honors area's top businesses

POSTED: February 15, 2013 12:27 a.m.

Some of Forsyth County’s top businesses will be honored during a lunch event Feb. 21.

Held by the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, the 2013 Business Awards Luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center, 3410 Ronald Reagan Blvd.

Jason Mock, director of the chamber’s Small Business Services Center, said this is the third year for the event.

Formerly, awards presented during the luncheon were given out during the chamber’s annual dinner.

“We’ve added some awards along the way once we separated it from the annual dinner and moved it into the [Small Business Services Center] program section,” Mock said.

Awards presented during the luncheon include those for small businesses of the year with 10 or less employees, those with less than 25, 50 and fewer and those with more than 50, as well as for the year’s top new business and international business.

“The main focus will be on our award winners and making sure we honor those individuals that will be receiving an award,” Mock said.

But, he said, there will also be a couple of speakers.

“We’re going to have Congressman Doug Collins, the new 9th District congressman,” Mock said. “Congressman Rob Woodall of the 7th District will be in attendance, but we’re still waiting to hear back if he will speak.”

Also speaking will be Steve Bloom, a mentor for about 20 small businesses through the chamber’s SCORE Roundtable program.

“He will be speaking about entrepreneurship and owning your own business and the struggles that entrepreneurs have, as well as the blessings they have,” Mock said.

He said the lunch has been successful in years past and he’s expecting similar numbers this year.

“In the past we’ve had anywhere from 150 to 180 attendees for this event,” he said. “So we’re expecting about the same amount for Feb. 21. It should be a good time.”
