Soccer: Lacy leads Lambert girls past North

Lady Horns improve to 3-0

POSTED: February 25, 2013 5:23 p.m.

Lambert’s girls had no trouble finding the back of the net against North Forsyth.

Senior Heather Lacy’s hat-trick helped propel the No. 6-ranked Lady Longhorns soccer team to a 7-0 Region 6-AAAAAA victory over the Lady Raiders on Friday at The Horn.

"I think our team chemistry is really working well right now," Lacy said. "We have some new people in there and it’s just coming together better than it is in the past few years. Not that our team wasn’t really sound then, but that it’s working [well now]."

Olivia Haugan scored Lambert’s first goal in the 27th minute after Tatum Richey worked a nice pass by a defender. The Lady Raiders (2-2, 0-2) held off Lambert’s constant attack for only six more minutes before Emily Harper created her own shot to make the score 2-0.

It was Lacy’s turn with 12 minutes remaining before halftime when she blasted a 20-yard shot from the left side of the goal to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

"[North] has played us tooth-and-nail the past two years," Lambert head coach Scott Luthart said. "They’ve been the one team in this county that we’ve had the most trouble with, honestly. They tied us the past two years, so I challenged the girls to dictate the pace of play from the opening whistle and the way they came out definitely showed that they bought into that mentality."

The offensive attack continued as Haugen found Lacy for a close goal less than two minutes into the second half.

Lambert (3-0, 2-0) was back at it again six minutes later, as North goalkeeper Danielle Mummaw tried to punch the ball out of the box on a shot attempt, but Richey scored off a rebound to make the score 5-0.

Four minutes later, sophomore Abbie Worrell placed the ball about 15 yards from the goal and Lacy did the rest as she drilled the ball past the keeper for her third goal.

Maggie Hanusek knocked in the final goal of night, but it was the most impressive. Hanusek, a freshman, started her drive at midfield and shook four defenders on her way to beat the goalie and make the final score 7-0.

Lambert keeper Sami Lucas had an easy night and recorded the clean sheet with only two shots on goal.

"I’m impressed and pleased with the 7-0 result," Luthart said. "And especially since we were a little bit unsure personnel-wise coming out, but that just speaks volumes of the girls that work hard at practice every day."

Lambert will travel to South Forsyth on Tuesday, while North will play at West Forsyth.
