The Lanier Technical College Foundation recently received a $10,000 gift from the Nordson Corporation Foundation to aid the college’s machine tool technology program.

The program at Lanier Tech prepares students for careers in the machine tool technology field. Under the direction of Jim Mealor, it emphasizes machine tool theory and practical application.

In a statement, Mealor expressed gratitude to Nordson.

“It is through these partnerships that we are able to maintain the quality of our students that we send into the work force,” he said. “… Their generosity will help operate our program throughout the year.”

There are 54 students enrolled in machine tool and CNC technology programs, according to the college. An associate’s degree in machine tool technology will be offered beginning this fall.

Cindy Baumgardner, program officer with the Nordson Corporation Foundation, said in a statement that the company’s founders were “very philanthropic and believed in sharing the success of the business in communities where you live and work.”

“We continue to uphold that value system as we partner with the Lanier Technical College Foundation to prepare young scholars for careers in the machine tool technology field,” she said.

Westlake, Ohio-based Nordson Corporation has offices in Johns Creek, not far from Forsyth County.

The company engineers, manufactures and markets differentiated products and systems used for dispensing adhesives, coatings, sealants, biomaterials and other materials, fluid management, test and inspection, UV curing and plasma surface treatment.
