Local man named to state leadership role

Gov. Nathan Deal has appointed a Forsyth County resident as interim president of the Georgia Student Finance Commission.

Tracy A. Ireland, who joined the commission in 2001, brings more than 19 years of higher education finance experience to the post.

According to a news release from the state, Ireland’s background includes finance and operations, marketing, budgeting, strategic planning and general management.

He has served in a variety of leadership roles with the commission in the areas of operations, postsecondary school outreach, legislative affairs and media relations.

Prior to joining the commission, Ireland worked for College Foundation Inc., a private, nonprofit student loan provider in Raleigh, N.C., where he held a variety of positions including director of North Carolina’s National College Savings Program, call center manager and electronic services coordinator.

Ireland lives in Cumming with his wife, Judy, and their two sons. The family attends Browns Bridge Community Church and is involved with the Boy Scouts of America.
