Lacrosse: West girls demolish Dunwoody

Bailey scores game-high four goals for Lady Wolverines

POSTED: March 15, 2013 4:46 p.m.

With Marisa Martelli sitting out and Dakota Duchaine playing a limited amount of time, West Forsyth’s defensive unit took control against Dunwoody. The West quartet of Hannah Huggins, Halle Xanthos, Erika Cross and Conner Parker helped limit the Wildcats to three shots the entire night and 13 different players scored goals as the Lady Wolverines coasted to a 22-1 win on Tuesday at The Wolverine  Den.

Cece Bailey (game-high four goals) put West (6-1) on the board 45 seconds into the game with a quick strike on a pass from Hannah Supik.

Laura Sheffield added two goals off transition play within 20 seconds, both again on assists from Supik.

Dunwoody (2-4) tried to regroup with a timeout, but nothing changed afterward as Supik  issued her fourth assist within two minutes when she found Lindsey Lindaman cutting to the cage.

The floodgates continued to open on the Lady Wolverines’ scoring as Monica Martelli, Sarah Grady, Camille Allison, Jessie Coley, Kylie Woodall, Arielle Pagley and McKinley Puckett all tacked on goals in the first half. Dunwoody finally broke the shutout in the 22nd minute with a fast break shot  that West goalie Kara Duclos couldn’t get her stick on.

"We all knew that [Marisa Martelli] wasn’t [going to be] able to play tonight, but everyone in our program has total confidence in Kara’s ability," West head coach Dan Kaplan said. "The defense was determined to limit the shots taken on our end."

With a running clock in the second half, the Wolverines focused on ball movement and took a minimum amount of shots. Woodall scored twice in the half to secure a hat trick.

Lindaman, Channing Milford, and Hannah Huggins also added goals, and West’s defense didn’t allow a shot by the Wildcats the rest of the game.
