A Forsyth County high school student has been charged in connection with a fatal wreck March 7 involving a school bus.

Antonio Aguilera-Mora, 17, faces charges of second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to obey a traffic device, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Courtney Spriggs, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, said Aguilera-Mora also was charged with failure to obey for allegedly running a red light.

He was arrested about 3:30 p.m. Friday as a result of the traffic investigation, she said.

The three-vehicle collision March 7 caused the death of Lesia Elaine Bennett, 43, who was a data clerk at Kelly Mill Elementary School.

It occurred about 4:50 p.m. at Hwy. 9 and North Old Atlanta and Hutchinson roads, south of the Cumming.

Bennett was traveling east on North Old Atlanta in a Mercury Mountaineer when she was struck by a Nissan Titan, driven by Mora, that was heading south on Hwy. 9.

The impact forced her sport utility vehicle into the front passenger side of the school bus, which was stopped at the traffic light while waiting to turn left onto North Old Atlanta from Hwy. 9 north.

According to the sheriff's office, Bennett was not wearing a seat belt.

Aguilera-Mora, who attends Forsyth Central High School, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, and he was treated and released.

No students were on the bus, and the bus driver wasn’t hurt.
