Dozens of people dropped by Hannah Testa’s west Forsyth home Saturday.

It wasn’t her birthday or a play date, rather they were there to help the 10-year-old in her fight to save rhinoceroses in Africa.

Testa had heard about the animals’ plight only a few days earlier, but sprang into action to collect petitions to send South African President Jacob Zuma.

“I was really touched,” Testa said. “I made a promise to myself that I would try to get at least 500 petitions.”

Testa’s efforts are through the One More Generation organization, founded by two elementary students from Fayetteville.

Through their organization, siblings Carter and Olivia Ries have worked to help a variety of endangered animals. They were so impressed with Testa’s effort, they were among the visitors to her house Saturday.

“It was amazing. I think it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Testa said about meeting the founders. “They were just about my age and to think that they started an organization and put the effort into it … and they’re really sweet and kind too.”

Testa said she hopes her petitions will reach Zuma, and that the leader will take legal action against those poaching rhinos for their valuable horns.

“I think it’s going to prove to him how many people care and how many think there should be more punishment and a stronger law,” Tesa said of the petitions.

After collecting 205 petitions Saturday, Testa said she will be asking her classmates at Kelly Mill Elementary School, fellow soccer players and the community.
