Chamber leader picked to assist 'Y'

POSTED: March 25, 2013 12:29 a.m.

A high-ranking local chamber of commerce official has been tapped to serve as the finance chairman for the State YMCA of Georgia in Forsyth County for 2013.

The YMCA announced the selection of James McCoy, president and CEO of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, in a news release Thursday.

The finance drive is under way to support the State YMCA program in middle and high schools across Georgia through Hi-Y, Tri-Hi-Y and Co-ed “Y” Clubs.

“Y” Clubs are leadership development, service-oriented faith-based school clubs for sixth- through 12-grade students.

According to the organization, club members learn by doing. They tackle monthly school and community service projects and participate in a variety of conferences geared towards government education and Christian character.

In Forsyth, “Y” clubs can be found at North and West Forsyth high schools, as well as North Middle School, Horizon Christian Academy and a local homeschool group.

Proceeds from the drive will go to assist the clubs and help launch new ones.
