A popular food event returns Saturday as the Taste of Forsyth fills the Cumming Fairgrounds.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., about 25 food vendors from Forsyth and nearby counties will offer a wide range of samples, which visitors can buy for a small fee.

The menu will feature everything from Italian and Chinese fare to barbecue and down home cooking, as well as desserts such as cupcakes, ice cream and fried brownies.

Bill Watson, one of the organizers, said the event offers families an affordable way to try out some local vendors.

“It’s a taste event, so everything’s just $1 to $4,” he said. “That’s great for the public because who doesn’t like to eat, right?

“Then for the restaurants it’s great, because what’s better than putting the food in their mouths … you can actually put little morsels in their mouths and hopefully get customers for life.”

Tracy Helms, Cumming Fairgrounds event coordinator, has said he expects about 10,000 people to attend Taste of Forsyth, which was adopted by the city in 2011 after being held for several years as a fundraiser for the nonprofit Family Haven.

And since the gathering falls on the Saturday before Easter, families can also enjoy egg hunts.

The first, for children age 3 and younger, will be held at 11:30 a.m. The second follows at 12:30 p.m. and is for children ages 4 to 7.
Children 8 to 10 can participate in the third hunt at 1:30 p.m.

Live music will also be provided by Scott Thompson, and children and adults of all ages can check out Peter Hart of Atlanta Puppet.

Children likely will also enjoy the kids’ zone with a number of games and activities, as well as a touch-a-truck display featuring military vehicles, cranes, race cars, fire engines and police cruisers.
