Authorities are investigating the death of a 40-year-old woman whose body was found in a burning home early Easter morning.

Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers said Elise Jeanette Chrisley was dead when firefighters discovered her inside the house at 5145 Shady Grove Road.

The exact cause of death has not been determined, though Shivers said they are awaiting the results of an autopsy and toxicology report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is also involved in the investigation.

The fatal fire is the first of the year in Forsyth County. There was one in 2012 and three people died in a blaze April 16, 2011, on Little Mill Road in north Forsyth.

The fire Sunday was reported by a passer-by about 1:08 a.m., Shivers said.

“When we arrived on scene, we had heavy fire in one corner of the home,” he said. “It was quickly brought under control, but when we searched the home, we unfortunately found this individual deceased inside.”

Chrisley was alone in the house, Shivers said.

“There were working smoke detectors in the home and our troops heard them sounding when we arrived,” he said.

Fire investigators stayed on site until noon Sunday.

The home is uninhabitable, Shivers said, due to extensive smoke and water damage, though the flames damaged less than half of the structure.
