Mentoring group goes to hockey game

POSTED: April 10, 2013 9:03 p.m.

Mentors and their mentees from Forsyth County recently took in a Gwinnett Gladiators hockey game.

The outing to Gwinnett Arena was one of many activities that Mentor Me North Georgia sponsors throughout the year for volunteer mentors and their mentees.

The local nonprofit works to making a difference in the lives of children and young people by providing one-on-one mentoring between adult volunteers and children and young people.

Children between the ages of 6 and 17 who need and want a mentor are matched with adults who can serve as role models.

Sylvia Cardona, executive director of the local group, enjoyed seeing the kids have fun during the trip.

“Outings like this not only give the kids and their mentors the opportunity to have fun and build their relationships, but they all get to know each other better,” Cardona said. “And it helps the kids to continue developing their social skills.”
