Traffic alert: Work set for Hwy. 369

Delays, lane closures likely

POSTED: April 23, 2013 5:53 p.m.

Roadwork scheduled to begin Wednesday along a 25-mile stretch of Hwy. 369 likely will cause traffic delays throughout the week.

Through Friday, the Department of Transportation will be closing the well-traveled corridor at different points between Hwy. 53/McEver Road in Hall County to the Forsyth-Cherokee county line.

Teri Pope, department spokeswoman, said weather permitting, crews will be improving the shoulder grade from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.

“Setting the grade of the shoulders gives motorists a ‘recovery area’ if they run off the roadway, improving safety of the corridor,” Pope said.

She added that the improvements will cover 25 miles, “so by the time we do both shoulders, it is 50 miles of shoulder work.”

“This work will improve safety by re-grading the shoulder so that it is even with the roadway driving surface then gently slopes down for better drainage,” she said.

Work will begin on the westbound shoulder heading toward the Cherokee line, then back along the eastbound lanes to Hwy. 53.

The project is slated to begin Wednesday, however weather could push the project to next week, Pope said.
