DAHLONEGA — You can’t win them all? Tell that to Lambert’s girls golf team.

The Lady Longhorns crushed second place Alpharetta by 54 strokes and won their fourth region title — this time the Region 6-AAAAAA crown — in the program’s short four-year history on Monday at Achasta Golf Club.

"Every year I say, ‘This team is potentially the best we’ve ever had,’ and it’s the same case again this season," Lady Longhorns head coach Joel Posey said.

Lambert (228) was led by freshman Lauren Lightfritz, who tied for low medalist with 74. Her performance was no surprise to Posey.

"I have four different girls that can shoot par on any given day and beat each other on any given day," Posey said.

The Lady Longhorns warmed up for the region tournament with a dominant win on Saturday at the Bronco Invitational.

Lambert shot a combined score of 237 led by Lightfritz and senior Sloan Shanahan, who both shot a 77 and tied for the low medalist award.

Lambert crushed Gainesville, the 2012 Class 3A state champion, by 15 stokes.

Lambert’s boys narrowly missed qualifying for their first state tournament appearance at the Region 6 meet, but the team will have another chance at state sectionals. The Longhorns posted a team score of 297 and took runner-up, two strokes behind Johns Creek. Longhorns senior Harry Lambert took the low medalist award with 68.

In past years a second place finish would have automatically qualified the Horns for the state tournament. The Georgia High School Association adjusted the postseason format this year to include a sectional round that will feature the second, third and fourth place teams from each region.

South Forsyth’s boys also qualified for the sectional round.
