Fashion show benefits room makeover

POSTED: May 6, 2013 12:26 a.m.

The worlds of fashion and interior design will come together for a good cause this week as Allison Havill Todd Interiors presents its first spring fashion show and luncheon.

Called Dressing for Designing Dreams, the event is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Windermere Golf Club. It will feature several local women modeling the hottest new spring trends, according to Todd.

“We’re giving a taste of spring’s new fashions,” she said. “There will be several models who are members of the community, they’re not professional models.”

Todd said Thursday’s fashion show came about after “brainstorming” with her friend Rachel Collar, a stylist and wardrobe consultant.

“She follows trends in the fashion industry and I follow trends in the design industry,” said Todd, noting that interior design trends often follow those from runways.

“You look at the color schemes and styles and graphics and patterns, and there are lots of parallels.”

She said she’s anticipating about 100 people for the event, which will have a Mother’s Day theme.

“Many of [the models] are mothers themselves and we did this just prior to Mother’s Day, thinking what a great thing for somebody to do with their mother or daughter, or for a husband to buy a ticket for his wife.”

Tickets to the show are $25 and, Todd stressed, must be purchased by noon Monday at www.designingdreams.webs.com.

“People can’t just show up,” she said. “They have to go online and purchase tickets.”

All proceeds from the event go to the Designing Dreams program, through which a family in need receives a free room makeover valued at up to $20,000.

Todd said she’s taking nominations for this year’s recipient until July 1. The room makeover is designed to help “a deserving individual in the community who is going through a hardship of some kind.”

“That could be physical, emotional or financial,” she said. “Perhaps they’ve experienced the loss of a loved one, diagnosis of a severe or terminal illness, or they’re dealing with a sick child … any kind of hardship.”

Anyone interested in nominating someone for this year’s room makeover should go to www.ahtinteriors.com.
