Two Forsyth County residents have been arrested in connection with the theft of about $1.6 million from a 91-year-old Cobb County woman.

According to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old Jeffrey T. Carr faces four counts of theft by taking and exploitation of the elderly.

He is being held in the Cobb County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

His father, Joseph T. Carr, 65, has been released after posting a $100,000 bond after his arrest on the same two charges.

According to the sheriff’s office, Jeffrey Carr removed about $1.6 million from the woman’s accounts between April 2012 and January.

He reportedly influenced the woman to sign a power of attorney that gave him access to her remaining estate.

Citing the ongoing investigation, investigators declined to comment further on the matter.

In a news release, however, they did note that they recovered some of the missing money by seizing bank accounts of Jeffrey Carr and the woman.

The investigators are working in conjunction with the Cobb district attorney’s office and adult protective services office on the case.

According to the release, search warrants were obtained for the homes of Jeffrey Carr and Joseph Carr, both of whom live near Lake Lanier in northeastern Forsyth County.

As a result of the searches, four Cadillac vehicles and two Rolex watches were seized, all of which investigators suspect had been purchased with the woman’s money.
