Eight Forsyth County high school students have earned entrance into the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Ryan J. Burns from West Forsyth and Kelsey E. Morton from South Forsyth each received scholarships funded through Automatic Data Processing, which will pay between $500 and $10,000 annually.

The company is one of more than 400 to participate in the merit scholarship program.

Winners of a $2,500 annual scholarship, funded through the National Merit Scholarship Corp., include Pinecrest Academy student Austin J. Ward.

Vijeth Mudalegundi from South Forsyth and Christina A. Hansen from North Forsyth also earned the honor.

Lambert High School had three recipients — Casey J. Kim, Megan K. Moore and Lucy F. Yang — all whom plan to incorporate science in their future careers.

The local scholarship winners were among about 9,000 to receive the distinction from a field of more than 1.5 million students.

The criteria included many factors, from an outstanding academic record to extracurricular activities and leadership positions.
