An 86-year-old man has turned himself into authorities, the alleged driver in a hit and run incident.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for the driver who struck a woman at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Mountain Valley Circle near Hwy. 20.

Winton “Red” Kuglar, of Shady Grove Road, has been charged with hit and run resulting in serious injury, serious injury by motor vehicle and reckless driving, according to the sheriff’s office.

He is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center on a $12,375 bond.

Kuglar allegedly drove into the grass and struck Krystal Cain, 31.

Cain had been walking home from a nearby store when she was struck, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

“Cain said she heard a car coming and moved off the roadway on to the grass, but was still struck by the car,” the release states.

Cain reportedly suffered a broken arm and head trauma. She was transported by ambulance to North Fulton Hospital, where she remained hospitalized late Monday.

A witness told deputies he saw a gray car stop after striking Cain, but the driver reportedly left the scene once the witness stopped to help.

While searching the area, Deputy Mike Nelson noticed a gray Acura with hood damage and stopped the driver, Kuglar, who was interviewed.

Based on evidence and statements made, Kuglar was later charged, then turned himself in, said FCSO spokeswoman Courtney Spriggs.

It was unknown why he drove off the road or how fast he was driving, Spriggs said. The speed limit on the road is 25 mph.

No additional charges are anticipated, she said.
