Board mulls Hwy. 141 overlay notifications

POSTED: May 23, 2013 12:26 a.m.

During its work session Tuesday, the Forsyth County commission discussed the possibility of notifying the public of staff-level determinations regarding the Peachtree Parkway Overlay.

The county is considering posting notice on the planning department Web site. The talk arose as part of the county’s terms in resolving an administrative appeal related to a planned Walmart.

Also during Tuesday's meeting, commissioners:

• Approved a lease agreement for Supporting Adoption and Foster Families Together for a 9,900-square-foot building at 219 Castleberry Road.

The $1,500-per-month lease could be paid in part by a $500-per-month grant. The county may also rent out SAFFT’s existing building for additional revenue.

SAFFT has outgrown its current county-owned home, which doesn’t meet requirements of a grant.

• Adopted a resolution closing out budget adjustments for 2012.

Health care claims caused more expenses than budgeted, but local option sales tax, or LOST, revenue was higher than anticipated.

The fund balance will be discussed during the audit presentation in June.

• Added $17,200 to the coroner’s 2013 budget, bringing the total to $165,800. The 2012 budget was about $175,000.

Attorney fees and training expenses drove the increase.

• Awarded a request for proposal for financial software to Tyler Technologies for $986,823. The new program will allow improved accountability and interconnectivity of departments.

The previous financial software has been used for more than 10 years. In addition, the annual maintenance cost will be about $143,000 starting in the second year.
