Pinecrest Academy’s Christian Marchione will swim for (junior college) South Georgia College next season.

Marchione led the Paladins at the Class 1A-5A state swimming meet with a sixth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and caught the attention of South Georgia’s coaches.

"They chose me," Marchione said. "They came to state and saw me and took an interest in me. I just liked the coach and teammates and the college and the program."

Marchione will bolster the men’s swimming team, which finished seventh at the national championship meet.

"I’m starting to swim every morning to get ready," he said. "I want to improve my time and try to compete in the championship."

Following his two-year stint at South Georgia, Marchione plans to swim for the University of Georgia, where he wants to get a degree in international business.
