Arrest made in Sanders Road crash

A 17-year-old Forsyth County woman was arrested on a host of charges after crashing and abandoning her vehicle on a closed portion of Sanders Road Wednesday night.

Rachel Hagan faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, hit and run, failure to obey construction markers and failure to report accident after abandoning her vehicle following the wreck.

According to the incident report, Hagan’s Saturn Aura “appeared to have driven through the embankment on the side closest to Buford Dam Road and had gone air-born coming to a rest partially off the roadway.”

According to the report, Hagan had three passengers in her vehicle during the wreck. The two in the backseat left the scene to go to Northside Hospital-Forsyth for treatment. The report said the third passenger called a friend to come take him and Rachel “back to his car, which Rachel then used to drive them both back to Dawsonville,” where Hagan’s grandmother lives.

The deputy reported smelling alcohol both in the abandoned car and on Hagan when he spoke with her at her grandmother’s home before the arrest. Hagan quickly denied that she’d been drinking, the report said.

The report said Hagan’s front seat passenger said she was “driving too fast” because of an argument.

“He said that Rachel was scared because she was drinking and under age so she wanted to leave and report the car stolen later,” the report said.

Hagan, a North Forsyth High School graduate, was taken to the Forsyth County Adult Detention Center, and has been released on bond.
