SCHEDULE ANALYSIS: Forsyth Central

POSTED: June 19, 2013 11:59 p.m.

The high school football season is still a couple months away, but it’s never too early to look ahead. The Forsyth County News sports department will break down one team’s schedule each day, continuing today with Forsyth Central.

Date Opponent (2012)

Aug. 30 at North Forsyth (3-7)

Sept. 6 vs. South Forsyth (4-6)

Sept. 13 at Dawson County (6-5)

Sept. 20 at Sprayberry (3-7)

Sept. 27 Bye

Oct. 4 vs. North Springs (0-10)

Oct. 11 at Cambridge (1-9)

Oct. 18 Sequoyah (7-4)

Oct. 25 Creekview (9-2)

Nov. 1 at Northview (3-7)

Nov. 8 Region Play-In

Telltale game

South Forsyth. Central should find out what it’s made of by the second game of the season. The Bulldogs fell 41-14 last season at South, but a Central offense and defense that returns several starters should put up more of a fight in early September when they host South.

Gut-check stretch

Back-to-back home games of Sequoyah and Creekview will test the Bulldogs. Central dropped both games last year by a combined 58 points. Both games are tough, but if the Bulldogs can pull out one win, first-year head coach Shane Williamson will be on the right path.

Trap game

Cambridge is the perfect trap game. Central will likely come off a big victory against North Springs and will be looking ahead to the showdown with Sequoyah. The Bulldogs pounded Cambridge 42-16 last season, but Cambridge enters its second season playing varsity football. Another year of experience and a home game could give Cambridge all it needs to knock off Central.

Outlook

The senior-led Bulldogs have a favorable schedule, as only three teams on the schedule have an above .500 record. Central should start the region schedule 2-0 before hosting its two hardest teams on the schedule. The final game of the regular season against Northview could determine a region play-in date. Williamson couldn’t have asked for an easier schedule.

By the number

2001

If Central finishes the season with a winning record, it would be the first time since 2001.
