County honored for budget book

POSTED: June 21, 2013 2:00 p.m.

Forsyth County recently received the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting for its 2013 budget book.

According to a news release, the county had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation in order to receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association.

The guidelines assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

Budget documents must be rated proficient in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

David Gruen, the county’s director of finance, said in a statement that the honor reflects the county’s “commitment to financial transparency and to making quality financial information accessible to our citizens.”

“All of the staff members who worked to put the budget presentation together are certainly to be commended for a job well done,” he said.

The finance officers association is a nonprofit professional organization serving more than 17,800 government finance professionals throughout North America.
