South Forsyth grad and Southern Mississippi pitcher Jake Drehoff came to terms on a minor-league deal with the Boston Red Sox, according to multiple reports.

Drehoff, who was chosen in the 12th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, reportedly agreed to a $175,000 signing bonus, according to Baseball America, $75,000 of which would count against Boston’s draft cap. The deal was contingent upon Drehoff passing a physical exam. Drehoff told the Forsyth County News he expected to officially sign Friday night.

A redshirt sophomore, Drehoff went 5-5 with a 3.54 earned-run average and 69 strikeouts in 81 1/3 innings for Southern Mississippi this past season. The 6-foot-4 lefty had two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Golden Eagles.

Instead, he decided to sign with the Red Sox and is currently in Fort Myers, Fla., with the team’s Rookie League affiliate.
