SCHEDULE ANALYSIS: North Forsyth

POSTED: June 21, 2013 7:04 p.m.

The high school football season is still a couple months away, but it’s never too early to look ahead. The Forsyth County News sports department will break down one team’s schedule each day, continuing today with North Forsyth.

Date Opponent (2012)

Aug. 30 vs. Forsyth Central (2-8)

Sept. 6 vs. Dawson County (6-5)

Sept. 13 at Cherokee (1-9)

Sept. 20 at Chattahoochee (7-4)

Sept. 27 vs. Lambert (5-5)

Oct. 4 Bye

Oct. 11 vs. Alpharetta (7-4)

Oct. 18 at West Forsyth (10-2)

Oct. 25 vs. Centennial (3-7)

Nov. 1 at Johns Creek (8-3)

Nov. 8 vs. South Forsyth (4-6)

Telltale game: Chattahoochee. First-year North head coach Jason Galt will find out just how effective the Double WingW will be in the fourth week of the season against the team’s first Region 6-AAAAAA opponent. If the Raiders are able to run the ball effectively and slow down Chattahoochee’s offense, then bright things could be ahead for the program.

Gut-check stretch: A three-game stretch at West Forsyth, home against Centennial and away at Johns Creek is enough to stress any coach. Last season, those three teams combined to outscore North 99-19.

Trap game: Cherokee. It’s difficult to find a trap game on North’s schedule, but Cherokee is the best candidate. North topped the Warriors 28-12 in the third game of the season at Raider Valley. Cherokee is one of the worst teams in Class 6A, holding a record of 9-41 since 2008, which is why North could easily overlook the Warriors.

Outlook: The newly installed run-heavy Double Wing offense will likely keep opposing offenses off the field and should help the Raiders’ defense that gave up 30 points per game. North should pick up a few wins early in the season, but once the region schedule begins, it may be a tough task.
