Pooches on Patio returns Sunday

Event benefits humane society

POSTED: June 29, 2013 12:14 a.m.

A fundraiser for the Humane Society of Forsyth County has been rescheduled for 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Originally set for June 9, Pooches on the Patio had to be postponed due to rain.

The event will give dog lovers the opportunity to bring their four-legged friends to dinner with them at The Ridge Great Steaks & Seafood.

According to information from the restaurant, 1035 Turner Road, all dogs must be on a leash and good with other dogs. Owners are encouraged to “dress their pet for fun” as activities will be available for them to participate in.

Cheryl Viglione, event/marketing coordinator for the restaurant, said it should be a fun night.

“We’ll have bobbing for bones and contests for dogs that look the most like their owners and dogs in the best costumes,” she said.

Cost to attend is a $5 cover charge per person, which will go to the Humane Society of Forsyth County.

Ten percent of all food sales and $1 from each beverage sale will also go the organization, which runs the county’s only no-kill animal shelter and many other programs to help local pets and their owners.

A fun drink menu, created for the event, includes items such as the Salty Dog, Chihuahua Cosmo, Lazy Labrador and Poodle Palmer.

Anyone interested in supporting the Humane Society can attend, Viglione said.

“Even the cat lovers, they can come eat inside the restaurant and have a portion of their meal ticket go to the Humane Society,” she said.

The $5 cover charge may be paid at the door or in advance at the Humane Society Thrift Store, 168 Tri County Plaza, or Lance’s Jewelry, 1705 Market Place Blvd.

Anyone who paid the cover fee in advance of the original event date is welcome.

“We have a list with all their names, so they can come again Sunday without paying again,” Viglione said.

She said that if the event is successful, it could be held on a regular basis.

“We’d like to have this maybe once a month as a fundraiser for the Humane Society,” she said.
