Tatum Richey had no doubts as to where she wanted to play collegiate soccer.

After her first on-campus visit to the University of Southern Mississippi (Div. I), the Lambert forward decided it was the place for her.

"It was just one of those things where you either love it or hate it," Richey said. "My first time on campus was great. The girls were welcoming and the campus was everything that I wanted. It had enough people to where I liked it, but not small enough to be claustrophobic. And, it’s not too close to home and not too far away."

Richey said she finished her Lambert career with 57 goals and around 15 assists, but admitted she must continue to put in hard work to help Southern Miss.

"I’m training and getting ready for some soccer," she said. "Just trying to eat right and not get into trouble. I’m going to go in there and do the best I can and work hard enough to get where I need to be."

Although Southern Miss fired its coach after a disappointing 4-12-1 season, Richey is excited about the opportunity to play under the new coach without any preconceived notions.

"It’ll be a free-for-all for sure," she said. "No one has a guaranteed spot, so that’ll be good."

Richey plans to major in elementary education.
