The Collection planning back-to-school celebration

Event set for July 27

POSTED: July 22, 2013 12:30 a.m.

While most kids probably don’t want to think about it, parents are getting ready to send them back to school.

And The Collection at Forsyth, formerly known as The Avenue Forsyth, is ready to help parents and students alike as they prepare to return to the classroom.

The outdoor shopping mall on Peachtree Parkway will hold its first Community Back-to-School Celebration from 2 to 7 p.m. July 27.

That’s two weeks before the Forsyth County school system starts the new year on Aug. 8.

“We are excited to bring the community together before the school year starts,” said Joe Turnbaugh, property manager, in a statement.

According to information from The Collection, the event will offer family-friendly activities such as face painting, balloon artists and a magic show, as well as live music from local artists Adam Komesar and Reed Ferguson.

There will also be a fashion show featuring the latest back-to-school fashions, accessories and technology from The Collection’s many retailers. Many of them will also be offering giveaways and discounts.

In addition, many area businesses and organizations not housed at The Collection will have booths at the event to share information with the community.

Attendees will also have a chance to help their neighbors who are in need through a school supply drive.

Donations can be dropped off at the back-to-school celebration or at The Collection’s leasing office July 25-27. Items will also be taken during the Concerts at the Collection event 7 to 9 p.m. July 25, featuring the Forsyth Youth Orchestra.

All donors will be entered to win a trip for two to The Inn at Pelican Bay in Naples, Fla.

Turnbaugh said he’s excited to hold the supply drive to help local residents in conjunction with the celebration event.

“This will be a great opportunity for us to collect school supplies for Forsyth County students and to help our customers get ready for the new school year,” he said.
