Parents invited to meetings on Title I

POSTED: July 21, 2013 12:26 a.m.

Parents of students who attend any of Forsyth County’s Title I schools are invited to a series of meetings starting at 6 p.m. Monday.

Title I schools are those with a certain percentage of students on the federal free or reduced meal plan.

These schools receive federal funding to help provide additional assistance in reading and math and extra educational tools.

The Forsyth County school system has five Title 1 schools: Chestatee, Cumming and Midway elementary schools; and Little Mill and Otwell middle schools.

The first meeting for Title 1 parents is set for 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Otwell Middle School, 605 Tribble Gap Road, on the topic of “Parents as Partners.”

A formula that can be used to help boost students’ reading aptitude and attitude toward the subject will be presented.

Following that presentation, a draft of the school system’s new Title 1 Parent Involvement Policy will be presented at 7 p.m. Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.

Transportation will be provided to Otwell from Chestatee, Little Mill and Midway. Buses will depart each of those schools at 5:30 p.m. Child care will be provided during the meeting.

Title 1 parents will have an opportunity to learn how federal funds are used in the public school system during meetings at 6 p.m. Thursday and 2 p.m. Friday in room 380 of the Forsyth County Board of Education Building, 1120 Dahlonega Hwy.

According to information from the school system, these meetings are academic planning sessions for the 2013-14 school year with a focus on student achievement and the Title 1 budget.

Parents will again have a chance to ask questions and provide feedback.

Child care will not be provided for either of these meetings.
