A 19-year-old Forsyth County man was killed in a collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle Friday afternoon in northwestern Forsyth.

It was the county’s second fatality in a five-day span, with both crashes involving a motorcycle or scooter.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the wreck Friday happened about 4:40 p.m. on Heardsville Road near Pisgah Road, not far from the Cherokee County line.

While the collision remains under investigation, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Karleen Chalker said deputies determined that a northbound Ford F-250 pickup truck turned left into the path of the Yamaha motorcycle.

The motorcycle driver, Cameron James Fullerton, unsuccessfully attempted to avoid the collision. The impact threw him from the motorcycle into the parking lot of the Quick Serve convenience store, where he died, according to Chalker.

She said the driver of the pickup truck, 34-year-old Jonathan Troy Sorrells, was not injured.

He was, however, arrested at the scene and charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide and failure to yield while turning left.

Heardsville Road was closed for about 90 minutes while authorities investigated the crash.

The fatalities were the first two of the summer on Forsyth County roads and the ninth and 10thof the year, according to authorities.

In the first fatal wreck of the week, a 21-year-old Forsyth County woman died after the scooter she was driving was struck Monday morning by a Chrysler 300 on Spot Road at McCoy Circle, northwest of Cumming.
